Illuminated Ceilings
An illuminated ceiling — a backlit ceiling panel, or light box, at architectural scale — puts light behind a high-performance translucent membrane, so the entire surface glows evenly. No downlight grid, no glare, no hot spots. The room is lit by its ceiling, not by fittings in it.

What it is
- A translucent PVC membrane, available in a range of colours and light-transmission grades, tensioned beneath an LED array engineered for perfectly uniform diffusion.
- Compatible with dimmable, tuneable-white and full colour-changing light systems, controlled from an app on your phone.
- Not limited to flat ceilings — the same system runs up walls, into coves and across curved and three-dimensional forms.
Where it excels
- Living areas and kitchens that want generous, shadow-free light without a field of downlights.
- Bathrooms and ensuites, where an even glow flatters the room and the person in the mirror.
- Retail, hospitality and commercial spaces that need a signature ceiling and consistent light on product and tables.
- Rooms with little or no natural light — for these, the Horizon daylight system (below) effectively installs a sky.
Finishes & options
- Tuneable white from candlelight to daylight, or full-colour systems that hold any shade on command.
- Horizon by UltimaMax — a natural-daylight system engineered to reproduce the daylight spectrum with high accuracy, mounted flat like a skylight or vertically like a window. Daylight of this kind is what our body clocks run on.

Common questions
Yes. Because the whole surface emits, an illuminated ceiling delivers generous light at low intensity per point — that is why there is no glare. Output is specified to the room at design stage.
LED strips run cool and are specified with driver access for servicing. The membrane de-tensions for access to everything above it.
